Being you · the curiosity compass

There is more than one way to be you.

What do you enjoy? What makes you curious? What helps you feel welcome?

You can ask those questions without having all the answers.

A question to take with you

Which way shall we look?

Pick a door to find a drawing or talking idea. This is not a test, and there is no score.

Start anywhere. Or skip this bit.

Your answer belongs to you. You can think, draw on paper, or talk with someone you trust. There is nothing to type here.

These buttons show question cards. They do not tell you who you are.

01 / YOUR INTERESTS

Toys are for playing.

Colors, games, clothes, and hobbies do not belong to just one kind of person. You can like what you like.

02 / YOUR WORDS

People describe themselves.

Some people are girls, some are boys, and some use words such as nonbinary. You can listen to how someone asks to be named and speak kindly.

03 / YOUR OWN PACE

“I don’t know yet” is okay.

You do not need to pick a label, make a big decision, or explain yourself to everyone. A question can stay a question.

A little practice

Kind words leave room.

People can be different from us and still be our friends.

→

“What would you like me to call you?”

Use the name someone shares with you. If you make a mistake, you can correct it and keep being kind.

→

“Would you like a hug, a wave, or neither?”

A person can say no. You can say no, too.

→

“Want to join us?”

Leave room for a different way to play. Ask what would help.

Questions deserve company

You do not have to figure it out alone.

If being yourself feels confusing or someone is being unkind, talk with a grown-up who listens and helps you feel safe. That might be a caregiver, teacher, school counselor, or doctor.

If one grown-up does not help, try another. You have not done anything wrong by asking for support.

This compass helps you start a conversation with someone you trust.
